Description
The Nokta Double Score (Score 2) is the middle tier of Nokta's waterproof multi-frequency line: the same fully submersible SMF chassis as the base Score, with the control set that a real hunt asks for. A dry park is forgiving. A trashy old homesite, a mineralized field, or a wet salt beach is not, and that is where the extra sensitivity, recovery speed, and manual ground balance on the Double Score earn their place. It is IP68 rated and submersible to 16 ft / 5 m, the whole detector, not just the coil, on the same Simultaneous Multi-Frequency (SMF) core that anchors the line.
Why the Double Score, and when to size up or down
The Score line is one platform in three tiers. The Double Score (Score 2) is the step that turns the turn-on-and-go base Score into a machine you can tune. Over the base Score, it doubles the sensitivity range to 1 to 10, adds recovery speed (1 to 3) for separating targets in trash, adds manual and tracking ground balance for mineralized dirt, and adds two custom user profiles you can save. Drop back to the base Score if you only ever hunt clean parks and want the simplest possible machine. Step up to the Triple Score (Score 3) Pro Pack if you want a fourth Relic mode, four frequencies, a second coil, and wireless headphones in the box. The Double Score is the sweet spot for the hunter who has outgrown a starter machine but does not need the flagship kit.
Simultaneous multi-frequency, and why it matters on the beach
SMF transmits several frequencies at once rather than one, so target IDs stay honest as ground mineralization changes. On wet salt sand, where single-frequency machines fall apart, that stability is the difference between digging good targets and chasing ghosts. Add the Double Score's recovery speed and manual ground balance and you can push sensitivity in ground that would overwhelm a simpler detector.
| Simultaneous Multi-Frequency + 15 kHz | Stable target IDs across changing ground; a single 15 kHz option for specific targets. |
| 3 search modes: Park, Field, Beach | The three places most people hunt, each tuned out of the box. |
| Sensitivity 1 to 10 + recovery speed 1 to 3 | Push depth in clean ground; speed up target separation in trash. |
| Ground balance: Auto / Manual / Tracking | Real control in mineralized dirt, not just an auto setting. |
| 2 custom user profiles | Save your settings for two sites and switch without re-tuning. |
| IP68, submersible to 16 ft / 5 m (whole detector) | Creeks, surf, and rained-out days; the control box goes under too. |
| SC30 12 in x 9 in / 30 x 23 cm waterproof DD coil | Balanced all-round coil; interchangeable across the whole Score line. |
| 2.6 lb / 1.2 kg, up to 12 hours, USB charge, 3 year warranty | Light for all-day hunts; charge from any USB source; full 3 year Nokta warranty. |
Nokta Score vs Double Score vs Triple Score
The honest ladder, not a strike-through price. The SC-series coils and the platform carry across all three, so a household can share kit.
| Score | Double Score (Score 2) - this | Triple Score (Score 3) |
|---|---|---|
| 3 modes (Park/Field/Beach) | 3 modes | 4 modes (+ Relic) |
| 2 freq (Multi + 15 kHz) | 2 freq (Multi + 15 kHz) | 4 freq (Multi + 4/15/20 kHz) |
| Sensitivity 1 to 5 | 1 to 10 | 1 to 15 |
| No recovery speed | Recovery 1 to 3, 2 profiles | Recovery 1 to 5, 3 profiles |
| Auto ground balance only | Auto/Manual/Tracking | Auto/Manual/Tracking |
| 1 coil (SC30) | 1 coil (SC30) | 2 coils (SC30 + SC24) |
| No wireless headphones in box | No wireless headphones in box | aptX wireless included |
All three are IP68 waterproof to 16 ft / 5 m, run Simultaneous Multi-Frequency, use 60 target IDs, and carry the same 3 year Nokta warranty. Note the Double Score ships without wireless headphones in the box; only the Triple Score Pro Pack includes them.
Does the Nokta Double Score detect gold?
Gold jewelry, yes, readily. Rings and chains in parks and on beaches, wet sand included, are what a multi-frequency machine finds well, and the Double Score's manual ground balance helps in mineralized sand. What it does not carry is a dedicated gold prospecting mode, so sub-gram natural nuggets in hot goldfield soil are outside its lane. For real nugget hunting, stay in the Nokta range with the Legend 2 and its true Gold mode, or the Magnetar 9000 deep-gold machine.
The software keeps improving after you buy it
The Double Score is field-updatable over USB, and Nokta has already shipped free updates. A recent firmware added Deep Target Identification (dt), a feature that lets deep non-ferrous targets which would normally read as iron register correctly, plus Pinpoint and Beach-mode refinements. It is a real upgrade owners get at no cost simply by updating.
Compatible search coils
The Double Score uses the SC-series waterproof Double-D coils, and all three sizes interchange across the whole Score line. Your Double Score ships with the SC30; add a size when the ground calls for it:
- Nokta SC24 9.5 in x 6 in / 24 x 15 cm: the small coil for trashy, high-iron ground, tight spots, and pinpointing.
- Nokta SC30 12 in x 9 in / 30 x 23 cm: the standard all-round coil, and the one your detector ships with, useful as a spare or replacement.
- Nokta SC35 13.5 in x 12.5 in / 35 x 31.5 cm: the large coil for maximum depth and ground coverage on open sites.
What is included
- Nokta Double Score (Score 2) detector
- SC30 12 in x 9 in / 30 x 23 cm waterproof Double-D search coil
- USB charging and data cable
- 3 year Nokta warranty
