Compare: Minelab Equinox 700 vs Equinox 900
The short answer: buy the Equinox 900 if you will ever hunt gold, want the 6 in / 15 cm coil in the box, or like fine control over tones and recovery. Buy the Equinox 700 if you hunt coins, relics, and beaches and want the same core machine with fewer dials. The engine is identical: both run Minelab's Multi-IQ simultaneous multi-frequency, both are waterproof to 16 ft / 5 m, and both weigh 2.8 lb / 1.27 kg.

Which one do you need?
Choose the 700 when your hunting is coins, relics, jewelry, and beach. It runs the same Multi-IQ engine at the same depth, and the simpler control set is a feature, not a compromise, for most detectorists.
Choose the 900 for three concrete reasons. First, Gold mode with the 20 and 40 kHz single frequencies: if a gold trip is ever in your future, only the 900 goes there. Second, the EQX06 6 in / 15 cm coil in the box: trashy parks and tight iron sites want that small coil, and the 900 includes it. Third, control depth: recovery speed 1 to 8 and four adjustable tone regions matter once you hunt fast-paced club hunts or dense sites.
Both machines take the full EQX coil family and the Coiltek NOX line, so neither choice locks you out of coils later.
