Which pinpointer do I need?
Answer two questions: how wet does your hunting get, and which detector do you swing.
Dry land and shallow water, beside any detector: the Garrett Pro-Pointer AT, the Minelab Pro-Find 35 (submersible to 10 ft / 3 m, with ferrous tone ID), the Minelab Pro-Find 40, the Nokta AccuPOINT (waterproof, with a screen), and the XP MI-4. The Garrett Pro-Pointer II is the land-only choice for hunters who never put a probe under water.
Linked to your detector: the Garrett Pro-Pointer AT Z-Lynk sends its audio to Z-Lynk Garrett detectors and headphones, the XP MI-6 pairs with the Deus II, Deus, and ORX remote, and the AccuPOINT pairs by Bluetooth to wireless headphones.

Do I need a pinpointer for metal detecting?
You can detect without one, but a pinpointer cuts recovery time on almost every target, keeps holes small on lawns and in parks, and stops small coins and jewelry from being lost back into the spoil. Most hunters call it the first accessory worth buying after the detector itself.
Which pinpointer works with my metal detector?
Any pinpointer on this page works beside any detector; a probe does not need to match the detector brand. Only the wireless links are brand-specific: the Pro-Pointer AT Z-Lynk pairs with Z-Lynk Garrett gear and the MI-6 pairs with XP's Deus II, Deus, and ORX. Choose the probe by its water rating first, then by wireless if your detector supports it.
Is the Garrett Pro-Pointer AT waterproof?
Yes. The Pro-Pointer AT is fully waterproof, which is what AT (all terrain) means, and the Z-Lynk version adds wireless audio to the same probe. The Pro-Pointer II is a land pinpointer and is not submersible.
Which pinpointer is best for the beach and salt water?
For wet salt sand and black sand, a pulse induction probe: the Fisher F-Pulse on the beach and in gold country, or the Nokta PulseDive for diving and surf to 200 ft (60 m). Waterproof VLF probes such as the Pro-Pointer AT, Pro-Find 35, and AccuPOINT are fine on dry and damp sand and in fresh water, but they can false in wet salt sand.
What is the difference between the Pro-Pointer AT and the Pro-Pointer AT Z-Lynk?
The probe is the same. The Z-Lynk version adds Garrett's wireless link so its tones play in Z-Lynk headphones or through a Z-Lynk detector such as the AT Max, which matters in surf, wind, and noisy parks. Standalone, both work beside any detector.
