Description

An Impulse AQ runs about three and a half hours on a charge, and a good low tide lasts longer than that. This is Fisher's own Impulse AQ battery pack, the replacement battery for the AQ, part PI-BATPK-NIMH: a custom 12-cell nickel-metal hydride battery rated at 2200 mAh, the same pack that ships inside the AQ configuration we sell (SKU IMPULSE-AQ-NMH, where NMH is First Texas shorthand for this NiMH battery). Keep one charged in the truck and the second half of the tide is yours.

At a glance

The Fisher Impulse AQ NiMH Rechargeable Battery Pack (part PI-BATPK-NIMH) is the original-equipment 12-cell nickel-metal hydride power pack for the Fisher Impulse AQ pulse induction metal detector. 2200 mAh capacity, approximately 3.5 hours of operating time depending on settings and conditions. Sold as a replacement or spare. Battery pack only; the Fisher NiMH charger is a separate part.

Why the Fisher pack and not a rebuild

Owner forums are full of threads about rewiring the AQ for other cells, which tells you two things: the AQ's pulse induction circuit is hungry, and its battery is not a hardware-store part. The pack is a closed 12-cell NiMH cylinder with Fisher's two keyed, gasketed connectors on the end cap (one for the detector lead, one for the charger), built to sit in the AQ's battery cradle and survive wet salt sand. First Texas publishes the two numbers that matter, 2200 mAh and about 3.5 hours, and we repeat exactly those. Of the three dealers we checked, one pastes the detector's marketing blurb into the battery page, one gives you a single repeated sentence, and only one explains that the charger is sold separately. All three charge the same manufacturer-set price, so the difference is whether the page tells you the truth about what arrives in the box.

Two batteries, one tide

A spare battery is the cheapest way to double an AQ session. Charge both, hunt the first through the falling tide, swap at the bottom, and hunt the rise. If your original pack has aged to the point that it no longer holds its rated run time, this is the manufacturer-specified replacement rather than a workaround. It pairs with the Fisher Impulse AQ and the 8 in (20 cm) open PI coil we also carry; Fisher's wired waterproof headphones (HP-DIVE1) complete the beach kit.

What is included

  • One Fisher Impulse AQ NiMH rechargeable battery pack, part PI-BATPK-NIMH

Battery pack only. The detector, charger, power cable, coil and headphones are separate items.

What we do not promise

First Texas does not publish a separate coverage period for this part on its product page, so we print none. First Texas also sells lithium-ion packs for the Impulse AQ; those belong to a different battery system and are not interchangeable with this NiMH pack. If you are not sure which configuration your AQ is, call (256) 284-2247 with your serial number before ordering.

Who you are buying from

History Seekers is an authorized Fisher dealer and a working detecting channel: over 1.1 million people follow our hunts on Facebook and YouTube. We hunt salt beaches with the gear we sell, and the person who answers the phone has sand in the truck. The story is more important than the artifact.

Frequently asked questions

Which Fisher Impulse AQ does this battery fit?

The NiMH configuration of the Impulse AQ, SKU IMPULSE-AQ-NMH, which is the AQ History Seekers sells. First Texas lists the PI-BATPK-NIMH for the Impulse AQ only; it is not listed for any other Fisher detector.

Is this the lithium-ion battery?

No. This is the 12-cell nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) pack, 2200 mAh. First Texas sells lithium-ion packs for the Impulse AQ as a separate battery system; they are different products and not interchangeable with this pack.

How long does the Impulse AQ run on this battery?

First Texas rates it at approximately 3.5 hours of operating time per charge. Actual time depends on detector settings, battery age and conditions.

Is the charger included?

No. This is the battery pack only. The Fisher Impulse AQ NiMH charger is a separate First Texas part, and your AQ shipped with one.

Should I buy a spare even if my original still works?

If you hunt full tides, yes. A charged spare swapped at low water is the only way to get a six to seven hour session from an AQ, since a pack cannot be recharged on the beach.

Where can I buy a genuine Fisher Impulse AQ battery?

From an authorized Fisher dealer such as History Seekers. Every authorized dealer sells it at the same manufacturer-set price; order online or call (256) 284-2247.
