Description

Half the targets a park hunter digs are three inches down in turf, and a steel digger on a manicured lawn is how detectorists get asked to leave. The Minelab Multi-Purpose Hard Plastic Digging Tool with Ruler (part 3011-0295) is the shallow-target trowel for exactly that ground: light enough to live in a finds pouch, non-marring on grass, with a serrated edge for cutting a clean plug and a measuring scale molded into the blade so you can log target depth without a second tool.

At a glance

Genuine Minelab accessory, part 3011-0295, UPC 811493015866. Hard plastic digging trowel with a serrated cutting edge and a built-in ruler in inches and millimeters (1 to 4 in and 20 to 100 mm markings, as pictured). Universal: works with any detector brand. Not a tool for frozen or rocky ground or deep excavation. Official Minelab accessory sold by History Seekers, an authorized Minelab dealer.

Which digging tool do I need?

This is the light tool, and that is a feature, not a limit. For grass plugs, flower beds, sand, and shallow coins and jewelry in soft ground, a hard plastic digger cuts a tidy plug, will not slice a coin the way a steel edge can, and does not set off your detector or a pinpointer when it is in the hole. For hard-packed clay, roots, frozen ground, rocks or anything past about 6 in (15 cm), you want a steel serrated digger or a full shovel and this trowel stays in the pouch. Run both: the plastic tool for the park and the beach, the steel for the field.

Why this Minelab digging tool

Minelab's description is plain: a hard plastic digging tool with a built-in ruler for precise excavation of found treasures. The ruler is the detail other diggers skip. Target depth is the number every detectorist quotes and almost nobody measures; here the scale is molded into the blade in both inches and millimeters, so a 3 in coin is logged as 3 in (75 mm) with the tool already in your hand. The serrated edge saws through turf roots so the plug lifts in one piece and drops back in with no scar, which is the difference between a park you can hunt again and one you cannot. The bright handle cap means the tool is found again in long grass, and the whole thing weighs little enough that it rides in a pouch all day. The dealer page that ranks beside this one sums the use case up honestly as grass plugs and shallow targets, and we agree; what we add is the measured scale as pictured rather than a guessed ruler length.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a plastic digger actually dig?

In turf, soft soil and sand, yes; the serrated edge cuts a clean plug. In hard clay, rocks or frozen ground it will not, and that job belongs to a steel digger or shovel.

How long is the ruler?

The scale molded into the blade reads from 1 to 4 in and from 20 to 100 mm, as shown in the product photo. It is a depth reference for shallow targets, not a tape measure.

Does it work with detectors other than Minelab?

Yes. It is a digging tool, not an electronic accessory, so it is universal.

Why plastic instead of steel?

It will not scratch a coin, will not mar a lawn, does not false a pinpointer in the hole, and weighs almost nothing in the pouch.
