Your Vanquish 540 came with this coil, and the day its cable gets pinched in a car door or the shell finally cracks on a rock bar, the machine is parked until a genuine replacement arrives. Which Vanquish coil do I need: V12, V10 or V8?
This is the one most dealers skip, so here it is outright. The original Vanquish 40 series (340, 440, 540) uses the V8, V10 and V12 coils. The newer Vanquish 60 series (360, 460, 560), the X-Terra Pro and the X-Terra Elite use a different coil generation, the V8X, V10X and V12X. The letters matter. If your detector says 340, 440 or 540 on the control box, this V12 is your coil. If it says 360, 460, 560 or X-Terra, you need the V12X instead. Minelab's 460/560 manual lists the supported coils as V8X, V10X, V12X and the EQX series, and the V12 is not on that list.
Why the V12 on a Vanquish 340, 440 or 540
The V12 is the coil Minelab chose to ship on the 540, the top of the original line, and it is the largest coil made for the 40 series. Against the V10 that comes on the 340 and 440, the extra 2 in (5 cm) of length and width covers more ground per swing and reaches deeper on the open-field and beach targets the Multi-IQ Vanquish is built for. Competitor pages frame this as a mud, wet sand and salt water coil, and that is right as far as the coil goes: the V12 is waterproof to 3.3 ft (1 m), while the Vanquish control box is only rain resistant and must never be submerged. Swing it through the wash and the shallows, keep the box dry. For a 540 owner this is the factory coil back on the machine; for a 340 or 440 owner it is the single most noticeable upgrade the detector can take.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the V12 fit the Vanquish 460 or 560?
No. The 360, 460 and 560 use the V8X, V10X and V12X coils and the Equinox EQX series. For those machines order the V12X, part 3011-0459.
Will the V12 fit my X-Terra Pro or X-Terra Elite?
No. The X-Terra Pro and Elite ship with the V12X and take the V-X and EQX coils, not the original V12.
Is this the same coil that came on my Vanquish 540?
Yes. The V12 12x9 in Double-D is the supplied coil on the 540 and the 540 Pro-Pack, so this is a like-for-like factory replacement.
Can I take it in the water?
The coil is waterproof to 3.3 ft (1 m). The Vanquish control box is not submersible, so wade and swing, but keep the box above the water.
Is a skidplate included?
Yes. Minelab supplies the V12 with its skidplate fitted. A spare V12 skidplate is part 3011-0411.
