The Minelab V8 8x5 in Double-D coil (part 3011-0410) is the small coil for the original Vanquish 340, 440 and 540, the one Minelab packs as the second coil in the 540 Pro-Pack, and the one 340 and 440 owners add when they start working the trashy ground everyone else walks past. Which small Vanquish coil do I need: V8 or V8X?
Minelab titles this coil "for VANQUISH 40 Series", and that phrase is the whole answer. The 40 series is the 340, 440 and 540. The newer 360, 460 and 560, plus the X-Terra Pro and X-Terra Elite, use the V8X, V10X and V12X generation; Minelab's 460/560 manual lists only the V-X and EQX coils as supported. Control box says 340, 440 or 540: this V8. Says 360, 460, 560 or X-Terra: the V8X.
Why the V8 on a Vanquish 340, 440 or 540
A Double-D coil separates targets along its narrow center line, and an 8 x 5 in (20 x 13 cm) DD puts that line into gaps a 10 or 12 in (25 or 30 cm) coil cannot enter: between iron nails under an old porch, between the rebar in a schoolyard, around tree roots and fence lines. You give up depth on open ground and get back every shallow coin and ring that was masked by the junk beside it. It is also the coil that fits a Vanquish into a backpack and gets a kid swinging without fatigue. The coil is waterproof to 3.3 ft (1 m); the Vanquish control box is rain resistant only, so this is a wade-and-swing coil, not a dive coil. Only one US dealer is currently selling the V8 as its own page, which tells you how often the part gets skipped; owners of the original Vanquish still need it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the V8 fit the Vanquish 360, 460 or 560?
No. The 60 series takes the V8X, V10X, V12X and the Equinox EQX coils. Order the V8X, part 3011-0457, for those.
Did my 540 Pro-Pack already come with this coil?
Yes. The 540 Pro-Pack ships with the V12 fitted and the V8 as its second coil. A base 540, 440 or 340 does not include it.
What is the V8 best for?
Trashy, iron-heavy sites and tight spots: old house lots, playgrounds, fence lines, roots, and crowded beach towel lines where target separation beats depth.
Can I use it in the water?
The coil is waterproof to 3.3 ft (1 m). The control box is not submersible, so wade, do not dunk.
Is a skidplate included?
Yes, fitted from the factory. The spare V8 skidplate is part 3011-0413.
