Why the Mythtek

The Manticore ships with the 11 in M11, an excellent all-rounder. The Mythtek is what you reach for when the site rewards a bigger footprint: open fields, pasture and farm ground, wide beach flats, and the kind of deep relic and cache work where a stock coil runs out of reach before the target does. At 18 in (450 mm) in a Double-D (DD) configuration, it pushes a larger detection field into the ground and sweeps a wider path, so you clear acreage faster and give deep, high-mass targets a real chance to answer.

This is a specialist, not a do-everything coil, and we would rather tell you that up front. In tight, iron-choked ground, a big coil works against you: it is heavier on the arm and it struggles to separate targets packed close together. For nail-infested cellar holes and trashy home sites, stay with the smaller M8 or M9. The Mythtek earns its place on clean, open ground where depth and coverage are what win the day.

Which detector does the Mythtek fit?

Is it a mono or DD coil?

It is a Double-D (DD) coil, which is the configuration the Manticore is built to run. DD gives you stable ground handling and even coverage across the full width of the coil.

How much extra depth does it give over the stock M11?

Depth gains depend on soil, target size, and how the target sits, so anyone quoting an exact inch figure is guessing. The honest answer: the biggest gains show up on larger, deeper targets in clean ground, where the 18 in field reaches past what the 11 in M11 can. On small, shallow targets the difference is minimal, and a smaller coil is often the better tool.

Is it waterproof?

Yes. It is submersible to 16 ft (5 m), the same rating as the Manticore it is built for, so wading and shallow water hunting are no problem.

Does it come with a skid plate?

It ships with a fitted coil cover and the cable. A dedicated wear skid plate (the Coiltek 18 in Open Web, which also suits the NOX) is available separately if you want extra protection on rough ground.
