Description

If your left ear and right ear do not hear the same, a single volume knob always shortchanges one of them. The Black Widow is DetectorPro's headphone for detectorists with challenged hearing and for hunt sites drowning in ambient noise: two fully independent volume controls, extended muffs that block up to 29 dB, and the most output in the DetectorPro line. Urban traffic, surf roar, a hearing aid left in the truck: this is the headphone built for those hunts.

At a glance

The Black Widow is a wired metal detector headphone with dual independent click-position volume controls (set each ear separately), extended large muffs rated up to 29 dB of ambient noise blocking, a dual mini-toggle system for detector compatibility and volume limiting, a 48 in (122 cm) strain-relieved coiled cable with a 1/4 in (6.35 mm) 90 degree stereo angle plug, and 150 ohm nominal impedance. Built in the USA.

Why the Black Widow and not a standard Gray Ghost

Three separations from the Gray Ghost Ultimate and Original, each aimed at a specific buyer. First, per-ear volume: unequal hearing is common in this hobby's demographics, and independent controls mean both ears finally hear the threshold at the right level. Second, 29 dB extended muffs versus 24 dB standard: that extra blocking is the difference at a beach with surf roar or a park beside a four-lane. Third, output: DetectorPro rates the Black Widow's volume capability high enough that they publish a hearing caution with it, which we reproduce below because it is real. The same dual mini-toggle system as the Ultimate handles detector compatibility and the battery-free signal limiter.

Manufacturer hearing caution, quoted straight

DetectorPro warns that the Black Widow's output can damage eardrums if the detector signal is not regulated to tolerable levels. Their recommended setup, which we repeat as-is: engage the limiting circuit, start with the headphone volume controls minimal and the detector volume at maximum, then raise headphone volume gradually as needed and tolerated. Buy this headphone for headroom you control, not for running wide open.
