Description
The deepest coin in the field announces itself once, faintly, and usually with wind, traffic, or other detectors talking over it. The Gray Ghost Ultimate is DetectorPro's flagship wired headphone, built to make sure you are the one who hears it. Special speaker elements sit in a tuned cavity design for greater sensitivity to tiny targets and more raw power at full volume, and the sound-blocking muffs cut ambient noise by up to 24 dB.
At a glance
The Gray Ghost Ultimate is a wired metal detector headphone with a single click-position rotary volume control, two toggle switches (detector compatibility and volume limiter), a battery-free hearing-protection limiter circuit, a 48 in (122 cm) coiled cord with a 1/4 in (6.35 mm) 90 degree stereo angle plug, and up to 24 dB of ambient noise blocking. Built in the USA.
Why the Ultimate leads the Gray Ghost line
Every Gray Ghost shares the same rugged platform: heavy-duty polymer muffs with full-ear surround cushions, an adjustable padded headband with no screws, no wire frame, and no rust, and a compact foldable design. What you add with the Ultimate is the tuned-cavity speaker design and the most complete control set in the line. The Original gives you the classic sound with a simpler switch set for less money. The Deep Woods Platinum moves all controls inside the cup for brush country. The Ultimate keeps both toggles at your fingertips and adds the limiter you can switch out when you want every ounce of signal. A note on accuracy: some dealer pages still describe an older push-button revision of this model. The current production Ultimate, per DetectorPro's own updated page and photos, uses toggle switches, and that is the unit we describe here.

What the limiter means in the dirt
A shallow can slug at full volume is a genuine hearing event. The Ultimate's limiter circuit rounds those hits off smoothly, without batteries and without the clipping noise cheaper limiters introduce. When you are chasing a whisper at the edge of detection depth, flip the toggle and the limiter steps aside. That is the whole argument for this headphone: protection when you need it, everything the speaker has when you ask for it.
