Your stock 11 in / 279 mm coil finds the open-ground targets. In nail beds, sidewalk strips, and grown-over corners, this is the coil that pulls the keepers out from between the junk.
Every Equinox and X-Terra owner meets the same wall: a good site that is simply too trashy or too tight for the stock coil. Nails, foil, and bottle caps crowd the coins and jewelry, the big coil blends them together, and you leave wondering what stayed in the ground. The EQX 06 is Minelab's answer to exactly that. At 6 in / 152 mm it is the smallest coil in the Equinox lineup, and that small footprint is the whole point: it concentrates the detector's field into a hot, precise zone that separates targets a wider coil masks in high trash, and it fits into spots the 11 in / 279 mm coil cannot reach.
Why the EQX 06 and not a bigger coil
The 11 in / 279 mm stock coil is the all-rounder and the EQX 15 is built to cover open ground, but neither will do what the 6 in / 152 mm does in the trash. Reach for the EQX 06 when the ground is full of iron, when you are gridding tight around foundations, fence lines, and tree roots, or when you want to pinpoint and lift a small coin or a bit of gold jewelry cleanly. As a small coil for Equinox, the EQX 06 coil is the finesse tool in your bag, and it is the size most detectorists reach for first when chasing small gold and jewelry, which makes it a favorite Equinox coil for gold. If you have been hunting a productive site with the stock coil and suspect you are leaving finds behind in the trash, this is the 6 inch coil for Equinox that changes what comes out of the ground.
This is a Next Generation EQX 06 (Minelab part 3011-0462, the current version that replaced the earlier 3011-0333). The updated electronics reduce the effect of electrical noise (EMI) in the field, and the coil stores its own calibration data so the detector reads it correctly the moment you connect it. It is a Double-D (DD) coil, the configuration that gives the Equinox its stable target ID and clean separation in mineralized ground.
Compatibility, stated in full, because most listings only give part of it: the EQX 06 fits the Minelab Equinox 600, 700, 800, and 900, the X-Terra Pro, the X-Terra Elite, and the Vanquish 360, 460 and 560. It does not fit the older X-Terra 305, 505, or 705, which use a different coil system, so if you run one of those this is not your coil. Waterproof depth is set by the detector, not the coil, so here it is straight: the coil is submersible to 3 m / 10 ft on the Equinox 600 and 800, and to 5 m / 16.5 ft on the Equinox 700 and 900, the X-Terra Pro and Elite, and the Vanquish 360, 460 and 560, all of which are fully waterproof machines. The skid plate is fitted from the factory to protect the coil in the rocks and grit it was built to hunt, and it carries Minelab's 3-year warranty.
The Minelab Equinox, X-Terra Pro/Elite, and Vanquish 60 series (360, 460 and 560) share the same coil system, so this coil is interchangeable across all three. That makes the EQX 06 a coil for Vanquish 360, a coil for Vanquish 460 and a coil for Vanquish 560 owners as much as an X-Terra Pro coil or an Equinox coil.
