Description

Wet sand is where good targets hide and where cheap scoops die. A thin-wall basket folds on the first shell bed, a welded-solid handle means one cracked weld scraps the whole tool, and a mesh basket sheds the small gold. The Motley Beach Scoop is the other approach: a 2 mm (0.08 in) stainless steel basket, engineered in the Netherlands, on a full-length hexagon-grip steel handle, joined by a one-pin lock you can open with your thumb. This listing is the complete tool: basket plus handle, ready for the beach the day the box arrives.

At a glance

The Motley Beach Scoop with steel handle is a sand scoop for metal detecting on beaches and in shallow water. Basket: 2 mm stainless steel, 12 in / 300 mm long, 8 in / 200 mm wide, 4.8 in / 120 mm deep, lasercut hexagon drain holes in two sizes. Full-length perforated steel handle, one-pin interchangeable lock. Seven colors. Assembled weight 6.2 lb / 2.9 kg.

Why the complete scoop, not the basket alone

Motley sells this same basket without the handle, and the split is simple. If this is your first serious sand scoop, buy this one: the steel handle is already matched to the basket, the pin is in the box, and nothing else is required. The scoop-only version exists for hunters who already own a handle they love, usually the Steve Goss carbon fiber travel handle or one-piece. Because the one-pin lock makes every Motley handle and basket interchangeable, the steel handle you buy today is never wasted: add a carbon handle later and the steel becomes your loaner or your rough-duty setup. Most dealer pages list one configuration and never explain this choice; it is the whole logic of the Motley line.

Specs and what they mean in the sand

2 mm (0.08 in) high grade stainless steel, electropolished Stiffer than carbon, wood, or glass fiber baskets; the polish plus powder coat shrugs off saltwater sessions
Basket 12 in / 300 mm x 8 in / 200 mm x 4.8 in / 120 mm One scoop moves real material, fewer digs per target
Lasercut hexagon holes, two sizes Water and sand drain fast; the smaller pattern keeps thin chains and small earrings in the basket
Two-step digging path Toe step for careful recovery near a fragile target, full step when you need to move beach
Steel handle, 1100 mm / 44 in, hexagon grip notches Dig standing up; the notches grip wet gloves without tape or foam and drain the handle as you lift
One-pin lock system Handle and basket swap in seconds; mix colors or upgrade to carbon later
Weight: basket 3.3 lb / 1527 g, handle 2.9 lb / 1360 g Heavy enough to punch wet sand, balanced enough to swing all morning
