Description

The Motley Field Shovel is the V-point, adjustable travel spade for open ground: plowed fields, pasture, and harvest cropfields where speed matters more than saw teeth. A serrated blade is the wrong tool in clean soil; it grabs when it should slice. Motley's smooth stealth-shape bent blade enters fast, cuts a clean-walled hole, and releases the dirt instead of caking it, and the same quick-release clamp as its Forest sibling sets this spade anywhere from 66 cm / 26 in to 100 cm / 39.4 in.

At a glance

The Motley Field Shovel (Field Fox) is an adjustable-length metal detecting spade of 2 mm (0.08 in) high grade heat treated steel, sandblasted and powder coated. Length adjusts 66 to 100 cm (26 to 39.4 in) with a quick-release clamp. Smooth V-point stealth-shape bent blade, 18 cm (7.1 in) wide by 20 cm (7.9 in) high. Weight 1,930 g (4.25 lb). D-shape handle. Made in Europe.

Why the Field blade and not the Forest blade

Motley builds distinct blades for distinct dirt, a choice most dealer listings never explain. The Field blade is the smooth one: a stealth-shaped, forward-bent V-point that Motley designed for harvest cropfields and pasture, where there is nothing to saw and everything to slice. Each cut takes less energy, the hole walls stay clean for your pinpointer, and the bent profile pops the plug free. If your ground is wooded or laced with root mats, step over to the Forest Double-Serrated Shovel, the same frame with saw teeth on both sides. For manicured lawns where a spade is too much tool, the Motley Grass Knife rides on your belt.
