Why the 11 in Double-D coil
The T2 earned its reputation on depth, and coil size is depth. The 11 inch Double-D is the standard coil the T2 ships with, and it is the everyday reach coil: wide ground coverage per sweep and strong depth on coins, relics and deeper targets. Its Double-D winding overlaps two D-shaped coils to reject ground mineralization and interference, so it runs smooth where a concentric coil would chatter. The trade-off against the 5 and 8 inch is a little weight and less separation in dense trash. When you want still more depth on open ground, the 12 and 15 inch coils go deeper.
