Description
Screening once gets the rocks out. Screening twice gets you to gold faster. The XP Gold Classifier #5 is the fine cut: a 5 mm mesh built as the perfect addition to the 10 mm classifier, designed to refine your sieving so what reaches your pan is small, uniform, and worth your time.
Why a second, finer screen
A single coarse screen leaves you panning everything under 10 mm, which is still a lot of gravel. Drop that material through a 5 mm mesh as well and you have halved the size of what you are working, which means less material in the pan and less chance of fine gold hiding under a pebble. XP designed this to stack beneath the #10: seated together in the operating position, the two classifiers give a double sieving action in one go, so you get both cuts from a single pass rather than screening your material twice.

Buying only one? Buy the #10 first
Honest guidance: XP designed the #5 as an addition to the #10 classifier, not a replacement for it. If you own no classifier at all, start with the #10, because getting the large rock out of your way is the bigger win. Add this one when you want the second cut and the one-pass double sieve. If you know you want both, the XP Gold Pan Premium Kit includes both classifiers plus two pans and the collecting accessories, which is the cheaper route to the pair.
What is included
The XP Gold Classifier #5 only. The XP gold accessories set (suction bottle, pipette, vial, mini tubes, magnifier) is not included with a classifier bought on its own.
Who it is for
Prospectors who already classify and want to tighten up what reaches the pan, anyone chasing fine gold where a 10 mm cut is too generous, and XP owners completing the stack.
Where this fits
Pair it with the XP Gold Pan 37 cm (15 in) for bulk work and the XP Gold Pan 27 cm (11 in) for finishing. Our Gold Recovery Equipment Guide explains where classifying sits in the recovery chain, or browse the rest of our gold recovery equipment.
