Description

Every GPX 6000 owner eventually asks the same question: what is still down there, below where my 11 in coil quits? The GPX 17 is Minelab's answer. A 17 x 13 in (43 x 33 cm) elliptical Monoloop pushes a bigger field deeper into quiet ground, and it is the coil for the day you stop chasing surface nuggets and start hunting the deep, heavy gold that survived everyone before you.

At a glance: The Minelab GPX 17 (part 3011-0427) is a 17 x 13 in / 43 x 33 cm elliptical Monoloop search coil for the GPX 6000 gold detector. Minelab positions it as the top performer for larger, deeper nuggets in less conductive ground. It is the one coil of the three the US GPX 6000 box does not include. Waterproof to 1 m (3.3 ft).

Why the GPX 17 is the natural first add-on

Here is the purchase-guidance fact most listings never state: in the US, the GPX 6000 already ships with the GPX 11 Monoloop and the GPX 14 Double-D in the box. The GPX 17 is the only coil of the three sold purely as an accessory, which makes it the expansion coil for the machine: the small-gold and the noisy-ground roles are covered on day one, and this coil adds the deep-large-nugget role the box leaves open. The elliptical shape keeps a big coil swingable, covering a wide sweep line while staying easier to control at the end of a long day than a 17 in round would be.

Which GPX 6000 coil does what

Coil Geometry Minelab's positioning In the US GPX 6000 box?
GPX 11 (3011-0425) Monoloop, 11 in / 28 cm round General-purpose: excellent depth and sensitivity, very sensitive to smaller nuggets, easy to maneuver around obstacles Yes
GPX 14 (3011-0426) Double-D, 14 in / 36 cm round Excels under high electromagnetic interference or in very conductive (salty) soils Yes
GPX 17 (this coil, 3011-0427) Monoloop, 17 x 13 in / 43 x 33 cm elliptical Top performer for larger, deeper nuggets in less conductive ground No, accessory only

Frequently asked questions

When should I run the GPX 17? When you are after larger, deeper nuggets in quiet, less conductive ground: old deep leads, dozed areas, and patches where the shallow gold is worked out. For small-gold sensitivity or tight terrain, swing the GPX 11 instead.

Does the GPX 6000 come with this coil? No. In the US the GPX 6000 ships with the GPX 11 and GPX 14; the GPX 17 is accessory-only, which is why it is the most common first coil purchase for the machine.

Is it waterproof? Yes, submersible to 1 m (3.3 ft). The GPX 6000 control box is not submersible.

History Seekers is a small American business and an authorized Minelab dealer. Everyone here detects, top down, and gold is the reason several of us started; our owner's finds include a 14.54 g Nome nugget swung up on a GPX 6000. Ask us which coil fits the ground you actually hunt, because the story is more important than the artifact.
