Description

Some ground fights back. Power lines hum through your threshold, another detector runs a hundred yards away, or the salt in the soil turns every swing into noise. That is exactly the ground Minelab built the GPX 14 for: a 14 in (36 cm) round Double-D search coil that keeps the GPX 6000 stable where a Monoloop coil struggles to run quiet.

At a glance: The Minelab GPX 14 (part 3011-0426) is a 14 in / 36 cm round Double-D search coil for the GPX 6000 gold detector. Minelab positions it for ground with high electromagnetic interference or very conductive, salty soils, with a wider sweep than the 11 in coil. Waterproof to 1 m (3.3 ft). Fits the GPX 6000 only.

Why the Double-D matters

A Double-D winding overlaps two D-shaped loops, and that geometry rejects electrical interference and conductive-ground response a Monoloop passes straight through. On the GPX 6000 that means running smooth near towns, under transmission lines, at organized hunts, and on salt-lake or beach-adjacent goldfields. You also cover more ground per pass than with the 11 in coil. When the ground is quiet, swing a Monoloop; when it is not, this is the coil that keeps you detecting instead of chasing false signals. One honest note: in the US the GPX 6000 already ships with a GPX 14 in the box, so buy this one as a replacement, a spare, or a second-rig coil. If you want the coil the box does not include, that is the GPX 17.

Which GPX 6000 coil does what

Coil Geometry Minelab's positioning In the US GPX 6000 box?
GPX 11 (3011-0425) Monoloop, 11 in / 28 cm round General-purpose: excellent depth and sensitivity, very sensitive to smaller nuggets, easy to maneuver around obstacles Yes
GPX 14 (this coil, 3011-0426) Double-D, 14 in / 36 cm round Excels under high electromagnetic interference or in very conductive (salty) soils Yes
GPX 17 (3011-0427) Monoloop, 17 x 13 in / 43 x 33 cm elliptical Top performer for larger, deeper nuggets in less conductive ground No, accessory only

Frequently asked questions

When should I run the GPX 14 instead of the GPX 11? When interference or conductive ground is the problem: near power lines and other detectors, or on salty soils. Its wider sweep also helps when you are covering open ground.

Does the GPX 6000 come with this coil? In the US, yes: the GPX 6000 ships with both the GPX 11 Monoloop and this GPX 14 Double-D. Buy it separately as a replacement or spare.

Is it waterproof? Yes, submersible to 1 m (3.3 ft). The GPX 6000 control box is not submersible.

History Seekers is a small American business and an authorized Minelab dealer. Everyone here detects, top down, and gold is the reason several of us started; our owner's finds include a 14.54 g Nome nugget swung up on a GPX 6000. Ask us which coil fits the ground you actually hunt, because the story is more important than the artifact.
