The SX28 is the 11 in / 28 cm round Double-D that comes on the Simplex Ultra, so it is the coil the machine's timings and target ID were tuned around. That is what makes it the honest all-rounder: enough footprint for real depth and ground coverage, enough shape to keep separation clean in moderate trash, and light enough to swing for a full day. If you hunt a bit of everything, this is the coil that does a bit of everything well.
Why the SX28, and which Simplex it is for
Think of the three Simplex coils as a set. The SX24 9.5 in x 6 in / 24 x 15 cm is the small coil for trash and tight ground; the SX35 13.5 in x 12.5 in / 35 x 31.5 cm is the big coverage coil for open fields. The SX28 sits in the middle and does not specialize, which is the point: it is the coil you leave on when you do not know what the day will bring. Buy it as a spare if you run a Simplex Ultra, or as the coverage upgrade if you run a Simplex Lite and want to move up from its smaller stock coil. Most competitor listings just name the part; the honest answer is that the SX28 is the most useful single coil a Simplex owner can have on the shaft.
It is a Double-D (DD) coil, the configuration that gives the Simplex its stable target ID and clean ground handling in mineralized dirt. It is fully waterproof; the coil does not set the depth limit, the detector does, and both the Simplex Ultra and Simplex Lite are IP68 machines submersible to 16 ft / 5 m, so the SX28 goes as deep as you can take the detector, wet sand and shallow water included.
Compatibility, stated straight: the SX28 is matched to the current Nokta Simplex line, so it fits both the Simplex Ultra and the Simplex Lite.
