Why the 11 in is the default

Coil choice is a trade between reach and finesse. Go bigger and you cover more ground and hit deeper, but targets packed close together start to blur. Go smaller and you separate beautifully but give up depth and coverage. The 11 in sits at the point where that trade is most forgiving: enough field to find deep coins and relics, enough separation to still pull a good target out of moderate trash, and a weight that stays comfortable through a full day. For open fields, pasture, parks, beaches, and mixed sites, it is the coil that just works.

When a site pushes to an extreme, the other two sizes earn their keep: drop to the 9 in for iron-choked ground and tight separation, or step up to the 13x11 in when depth and coverage are everything. For the broad middle where most hunting happens, the 11 in is home base.

The XP Deus II. It is also compatible with the XP Icon and Icon X, which run the same FMF platform. It is not compatible with the original XP Deus (Deus I).

Is this coil compatible with the original XP Deus (Deus I)?

No. This is an FMF coil for the Deus II platform and it is not compatible with the original XP Deus, usually called the Deus I. Deus I owners need X35 or HF series coils instead.

Is the XP 11 in FMF coil (D28FMF) compatible with the XP Icon or Icon X?

Yes. The 11 in FMF coil is compatible with both the XP Icon and Icon X.

Can I use this coil on my XP Deus II Gold?

Yes, the coil works with the Deus II Gold. One thing to know before you order: the charging clip that ships with the Deus II Gold will NOT fit this coil, so add the separate XP charging clip for FMF coils.

Does it come with a charging clip or charger?

No, a charger is not included. It uses the same charging system as XP detectors that shipped with a 9 in, 11 in, or 13x11 in FMF coil, so if your Deus II came with one of those, your existing charger works. The XP Deus II Gold charger will NOT work with this coil.

Does this coil come with the lower shaft?

Yes. A lower shaft (lower stem) is included free in the box, along with the attachment bolt kit that fastens the coil to it.

Does it come with a coil cover?

Yes. A coil cover is included and comes already attached to the coil.

Does the coil have its own battery?

Yes. The battery is built into the coil itself, rated for up to 20 hours depending on programs and frequencies, and the coil connects to your detector wirelessly with no coil cable.

Is the 11 in coil waterproof?

Yes, fully submersible to 20 m (66 ft), so it is fine for wading, surf, and shallow diving, not just rain.

Is the 11 in the best all-around choice?

For most hunters and most sites, yes. It balances depth, coverage, and separation, which is why XP ships it as the standard coil. Choose the 9 in for tight trashy ground, or the 13x11 in when you need maximum depth and coverage.

Does it come with everything I need to run it?

For mounting and hunting, yes: the coil with its cover already attached, the screwing kit, and the lower stem. A charging clip is not included, so plan on your existing FMF charger or add the separate charging clip.

How do I pair the coil with my Deus II?
