Description
The coil is where a detector meets the ground, and on the XP Deus II it is also where you tune the machine to the site in front of you. The XP 9 in (22.5 cm) FMF search coil is the small, fast, separation-first option: the one you reach for when the ground is tight, trashy, and full of iron, and you need the machine to pick a good target out of the noise.
At a glance
The XP 9 in (22.5 cm) FMF search coil for the XP Deus II is a round Double-D running 49 frequencies from 4 to 45 kHz. 345 g / 12.2 oz, fully waterproof to 20 m (66 ft), wireless with up to 20 hours of runtime. Includes coil cover, screwing kit, and lower stem. Built for target separation in tight, trashy, iron-heavy ground. 5 year XP warranty.
What the 9 in coil is for
A smaller coil sees a smaller patch of ground at a time, and that is exactly the point. In an old cellar hole packed with nails, or a picked-over park where every good signal hides next to a pull tab, the 9 in coil separates targets the bigger coils blur together. It is lighter on the arm for long days, it slips into tight spots along foundations and fence lines, and it gives up very little depth on the coin and jewelry sized targets most hunters are actually digging.
If you hunt wide open ground and chase the deepest possible relics, a larger coil will cover more and reach a little further, and we will point you to the 11 in or the 13x11 in for that. The 9 in earns its place where finesse beats footprint.
FMF, and fully waterproof
This is a Fast Multi Frequency (FMF) coil: it runs up to 49 frequencies from 4 to 45 kHz, either as simultaneous multi-frequency or as a single chosen frequency, the same technology that makes the Deus II stable in salt and sharp on small gold. The coil is wireless, with its own battery built into the coil, and it is fully waterproof to 20 m (66 ft), so wading, surf, and shallow diving are all in bounds, not just a splash rating.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which detector does this coil fit?
The XP Deus II. It is also compatible with the XP Icon and Icon X, which run the same FMF platform. It is not compatible with the original XP Deus (Deus I).
Is this coil compatible with the original XP Deus (Deus I)?
No. This is an FMF coil for the Deus II platform and it is not compatible with the original XP Deus, usually called the Deus I. Deus I owners need X35 or HF series coils instead.
Is the XP 9 in FMF coil (D22FMF) compatible with the XP Icon or Icon X?
Yes. The 9 in FMF coil is compatible with both the XP Icon and Icon X.
Can I use this coil on my XP Deus II Gold?
Yes, the coil works with the Deus II Gold. One thing to know before you order: the charging clip that ships with the Deus II Gold will NOT fit this coil, so add the separate XP charging clip for FMF coils.
Does it come with a charging clip or charger?
No, a charger is not included. It uses the same charging system as XP detectors that shipped with a 9 in, 11 in, or 13x11 in FMF coil, so if your Deus II came with one of those, your existing charger works. The XP Deus II Gold charger will NOT work with this coil.
Does this coil come with the lower shaft?
Yes. A lower shaft (lower stem) is included free in the box, along with the screwing kit that fastens the coil to it.
Does it come with a coil cover?
Yes. A coil cover is included and comes already attached to the coil.
Does the coil have its own battery?
Yes. The battery is built into the coil itself, rated for up to 20 hours depending on programs and frequencies, and the coil connects to your detector wirelessly with no coil cable.
Is the 9 in coil waterproof?
Yes, fully submersible to 20 m (66 ft), so it is fine for wading, surf, and shallow diving, not just rain.
When should I choose the 9 in over a bigger coil?
When the ground is tight, trashy, or iron-infested and you need clean target separation, or when you want the lightest, most maneuverable setup. For open ground and maximum depth, step up to the 11 in or 13x11 in.
Does it come with everything I need to run it?
For mounting and hunting, yes: the coil with its cover already attached, the screwing kit, and the lower stem. A charging clip is not included, so plan on your existing FMF charger or add the separate charging clip.
How do I pair the coil with my Deus II?
Pair it once from the coil pairing menu on your remote or WS6 headphones and the machine remembers it. Switching between paired coils takes a few seconds in the field.
