Description
The Bounty Hunter Tracker IV First Detector Kit is the History Seekers answer to the question we get more than any other: "I want to start, what do I actually need?" It pairs the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV, the best-known first metal detector ever made, with the Fisher F-Pulse pinpointer and the Bounty Hunter carry bag, so the first hole you dig is a small one and the detector rides home in something better than the box.
At a glance
Metal detector starter kit for a first detector: Bounty Hunter Tracker IV (3 modes, preset ground balance, 2-tone audio, waterproof 8 in / 20 cm search coil, 2.6 lb / 1.2 kg, two 9V) plus the Fisher F-Pulse pulse induction pinpointer (waterproof to 6 ft / 1.8 m, two AA) and the Bounty Hunter carry bag. Beginners; coins, relics, jewelry. Made in the USA by First Texas.
Why this kit
Every big-box store sells the Tracker IV alone, and the marketplace listings pad it with headphones. Neither fixes the thing that actually ends a beginner's first season: digging a crater for every signal. A detector tells you a target is under the search coil; it does not tell you where in the hole it is. The F-Pulse does. Hold it in the plug, follow the beep and the vibration, and a coin comes out of a three-inch divot instead of a shovel-wide excavation, which is also how you keep permission to hunt the yard, the park and the beach. We chose the F-Pulse over a cheaper pinpointer on purpose: it is pulse induction, so it stays quiet in the wet salt sand and black sand the Tracker IV itself is built to handle, where ordinary pinpointers chatter. The carry bag is the third piece because a first detector that lives in a closet corner with the coil cable kinked does not get used. No other dealer sells the Tracker IV with a pinpointer and a bag as one kit.
What the Tracker IV does, honestly
Two knobs and a three-position toggle run the whole machine. All Metal mode finds everything and gives the most depth. Full Discriminate quiets most trash, and turning the Discriminate knob up widens what it ignores. Tone Discriminate is the fun one: iron and steel go silent, gold and nickel give a low tone, copper, silver and brass a high tone, and most pull-tabs stutter out a broken tone with the knob near the middle. Tuning and ground balance are automatic, and the preset ground balance stays calm from saltwater beach to black sand with no adjustment and no loss of sensitivity, which is rare at this price. What it does not have: a target ID screen, a depth readout, or a pinpoint button. The 8 in (20 cm) search coil is waterproof; the control housing is not, so keep it dry. It is a motion detector, so keep the coil moving. Headphones are not included; there is a 1/4 in jack.

Frequently asked questions
Which kit do I need: the Tracker IV First Detector Kit, or a Fisher F44 or F19 Field Kit?
If this is a first detector and the budget is the deciding factor, the Tracker IV kit: it is the simplest machine we sell and it works the moment the batteries go in. If you want a numeric target ID on a screen, weatherproofing and five modes, step up to the Fisher F44 Field Kit. If relics and small gold in mineralized ground are the goal, the Fisher F19 Field Kit. All three kits include the same F-Pulse pinpointer.
Is the Tracker IV good for beginners?
It is the definitive beginner machine: two knobs, three modes, no screen to misread, and preset ground balance that stays stable in ground that confuses other starters.
Why does a beginner need a pinpointer?
Because the detector only tells you a target is somewhere under an 8 in (20 cm) coil. The F-Pulse finds it inside the hole, so you dig small, recover faster and leave the ground the way you found it. Smaller holes are also how you keep getting permission to hunt.
Does the Tracker IV work on the beach?
Yes. Its preset ground balance is stable in black sand and saltwater ground, and the search coil is waterproof. Keep the control housing dry. The F-Pulse is pulse induction, so it stays quiet in wet salt sand too.
Does it show what the target is?
No screen. Tone Discriminate mode sorts targets by ear: silent for iron, low tone for gold and nickel, high tone for copper, silver and brass, broken tone for most pull-tabs.
What batteries does the kit use?
The Tracker IV takes two 9V alkaline batteries; the F-Pulse takes two AA. Neither is included.
Will the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV find gold?
Gold rings and jewelry, yes: in Tone Discriminate mode gold reads as a low tone, the same tone as nickels and some pull-tabs, so expect to dig a few tabs on the way to a ring. The manual says All Metal mode will detect nuggets through black sand, but the Tracker IV has no gold mode, no ground readout and no threshold hum, so dedicated prospecting is the Fisher Gold Bug 2 Gold Kit's job in this family, not this kit's.
Can I buy the pieces separately?
Yes. The Tracker IV, the F-Pulse and the carry bag are each sold on their own. The kit price is the three at their regular prices, packed together; the point of the kit is that nothing gets forgotten.
