Bought a Vortex to hunt water? Then you have already discovered the catch: standard submersible headphones will not plug into it. The Vortex series uses a 1/8 in (3 mm) waterproof jack, not the 2-pin AT connector the rest of Garrett's water lineup wears. These are the headphones built for that jack - Garrett prints "works only with Vortex" right on the product art, and we will be just as direct. VX5, VX7, or VX9: this is your underwater audio.

Why these and not the other submersible
Garrett sells two submersible headphones at the same price, and dealers routinely blur them together - we found one major listing claiming its 2-pin model fits Vortex, which Garrett's own pages contradict. The clean rule: 2-pin AT machines (AT series, ATX, Sea Hunter Mark II) take the Garrett Submersible Headphones; Vortex takes this one. Robust build, padded cups that seal sound in and water out, and a coiled cable with the screw-down waterproof 1/8 in connector that mates to the Vortex housing.
What it unlocks on a Vortex
The VX5, VX7, and VX9 are built to hunt wet: surf lines, lake steps, creek bends where the old targets settle. Onboard speaker audio disappears the moment your ears are near moving water. Wired submersible phones keep the tone pipeline sealed so a soft, deep signal under a foot of water sounds like what it is - a reason to dig.
