What Fits the Garrett Vortex VX5, VX7 and VX9: Audio, Z-Lynk & Accessories
The short answer: the Garrett Vortex VX5, VX7, and VX9 are one hardware platform with Z-Lynk wireless built in, so all three pair directly with the MS-3 and CS-3 headphones and the Pro-Pointer AT Z-Lynk. Underwater audio is the Vortex Submersible Headphones on the Vortex's 1/8 in waterproof jack. Everything on this page fits all three Vortex machines, every link is a product we stock, and if you are unsure, call 256-284-2247 and ask.
The one mistake to avoid: the Vortex does not use Garrett's 2-pin AT connector. It uses a 1/8 in / 3 mm waterproof headphone jack, so the AT series' MS-2 with 2-pin connector and the Garrett Submersible Headphones will not plug into a Vortex. Garrett prints "works only with Vortex" on the Vortex Submersible Headphones for the same reason. The AT coils do not fit the Vortex either.
Search coils for the Vortex
All three Vortex machines ship with the 8.5x11 in / 22x28 cm Double-D Raider coil, waterproof to 16 ft / 5 m with the rest of the detector. Garrett's accessory coils for the Vortex are on the way to our shelves; we are an authorized Garrett dealer and can order them now, so call 256-284-2247 with the size you want.
Wireless audio for the Vortex
Z-Lynk is built into every Vortex, so wireless is a pairing, not a conversion. The link runs at a 17 millisecond delay, six times faster than Bluetooth by Garrett's measurement.
- Garrett MS-3 Z-Lynk wireless headphones: the full-size over-ear set with a 30 hour battery.
- Garrett CS-3 Z-Lynk wireless headphones: the same link in a 5.4 oz / 153 g on-ear frame for long summer hunts.
Fit note: wireless is for land and shallow wading. The MS-3 and CS-3 are not submersible, and when the Vortex goes under, it is the wired set below.
Underwater audio for the Vortex
- Garrett Vortex Submersible Headphones: the wired underwater set built for the Vortex's 1/8 in / 3 mm waterproof jack. VX5, VX7, or VX9: this is your underwater audio.
Pinpointers
- Garrett Pro-Pointer AT Z-Lynk: pairs with the Vortex's built-in Z-Lynk so both detector and pinpointer alarms come through your headphones.
- Garrett Pro-Pointer AT: the fully waterproof standard, and the pinpointer in our Vortex starter packages.
Finds and carry
- Garrett All Terrain Dig Pouch: the draining mesh pouch for wet ground, with a pinpointer sleeve.
- Garrett Camo Diggers Pouch: the deep zippered finds bag with webbing for a Pro-Pointer.
Digging and recovery
Digging gear is not brand-specific; these are the tools we match to a waterproof machine's ground:
- CKG digging tool with belt sheath: the park-friendly hand digger.
- CKG Universal 12x5 lightweight sand scoop: the beach starter.
- CKG Pro 11x9 stainless sand scoop: the wet-sand and surf workhorse.
Don't own the Vortex yet?
The three tiers are software on one hardware platform: the Vortex VX5, the Vortex VX7 with the salt mode, and the Vortex VX9 with the full frequency set and seven modes, and Garrett sells paid upgrades from a VX5 to a VX7 or VX9 on the same hardware. Our VX5 Starter Package and VX9 Package with Z-Lynk, built with Adventure Archaeology, put the pinpointer and pouch in the same order. Garrett's AT series has its own fitment page.
