The Minelab GPZ 8000 exists for exactly that gold. We were at the US launch in Mariposa, and we swung it on a real claim
History Seekers was fortunate enough to be invited to the GPZ 8000 US launch event in Mariposa, California, where we ran this detector on an actual working gold claim and in the test garden Minelab set up for the event. Two things stuck with us. First, the audio: the clarity through the Sennheiser HD 505 headphones is obvious the moment you put them on, and anyone who knows headphones will recognize that brand as top tier. Fitting that they partnered with Minelab on this detector. Second, the small gold: we were shocked at the clarity and depth it reached on even small pieces, most especially a 1 gram piece of gold at 8 in (20 cm) in mineralized soil. That is the target class that separates real gold machines from spec sheets, and we heard it plainly.
Why the Single Coil Pack
The Z18 18 in (46 cm) search coil in this pack is the depth coil of the Z-Set range, and it is the coil Minelab's own manual tells you to start with: maximum depth on medium to deep gold and the widest ground coverage of the three coils. If your ground is open country and your target is deep nuggets, this pack is the straight line to it. The Z13 and Z17 coils can be added later as your ground demands, or step up to the Three Coil Pack and own the complete range from day one. One important precision note, because at least one dealer gets it wrong: the GPZ 8000 does not use Super D coils. The Z-Set concentric toroidal system is new for this machine, and GPZ 7000 coils are not compatible.

Hear the ground, not just the target

The Pro-Swing 125 harness moves the weight to your hips, the GA 10 guide arm steadies the swing, and the hybrid carbon fiber and fiberglass shaft collapses to 40.2 in (102 cm) for transport. Know before you buy
The GPZ 8000 is a pure prospecting machine: there is no discrimination and no target ID, so plan on digging your signals. IP67 means creek crossings and rain, not diving, and the HD 505 headphones themselves are not waterproof. The detector battery requires a USB-C Power Delivery charger of at least 30 W (all included chargers qualify).
