Minelab GOLD MONSTER 2000: In STOCK and shipping now.

At a glance

The Minelab Gold Monster 2000 is a fully automatic gold detector running Multi-Au simultaneous multi-frequency (12 to 76 kHz) with PI-inspired signal processing, Echo Wave dual-layer audio, 0 to 99 Target IDs with a Gold Chance Indicator, and three Ground Types (Difficult, Normal, Benign). Sensitivity: Manual 1 to 10, Auto 1, Auto 2. 2.75 lb (1.25 kg) with battery and 5 in (13 cm) coil. GM2000-05 coil waterproof to 3.3 ft (1 m), IP55 rainproof control pod. Two Li-ion batteries included. 2 year warranty.

The bridge machine: flagship sensitivity, switch-on simplicity

Minelab's own manual describes the Gold Monster 2000 as the machine that bridges the gap between single-frequency VLF gold detectors and the higher-performance gold machines, and that is exactly how it hunts. Multi-Au runs simultaneous frequencies from 12 to 76 kHz with signal processing inspired by pulse induction, which is how it stays stable at high sensitivity in mineralized and even salt-conductive ground while hearing gold Minelab rates at below 0.01 grams. And it does all of that with the same switch-on-and-go automation that made the Gold Monster 1000 famous. We know, because our team runs both.

Amber's next chapter, and Heath's drift-mine gold

If you read our Gold Monster 1000 listing, you know Amber from the History Seekers team: completely new to gold detecting, a 10 minute lesson at the AKAU Gold Camp in Nome, Alaska, 9 pieces of gold in her first hour, and 118 pieces by the end of the trip. Amber is now learning the Gold Monster 2000, and it is already producing: she found a 0.4 gram piece of gold at an LDMA claim in Stanton, Arizona. She points to how friendly both machines are to a new user, and the 2000 is where her gold fever is headed next. Heath, the owner of History Seekers, hunts with it too: he found a 0.25 gram piece of gold with the Gold Monster 2000 at the LDMA Duisenburg, California camp while the crew excavated a drift mine from the 1860s. Two real finders, four real finds, one machine family. That is the kind of proof a spec sheet cannot give you.

Why the Gold Monster 2000 over the 1000

The 2000 keeps everything that makes the 1000 the beginner's gold machine and adds the layer serious hunters asked for. Real Target ID numbers from 0 to 99 join the Gold Chance Indicator, so you get a conductivity read most dedicated gold machines simply do not offer. Echo Wave audio plays two layers at once: the sensitive threshold detection audio and discrimination tones, high for gold, low for hot rocks and iron, with no loss of detection depth. Three Ground Types tune it to your dirt, and here is the detail nobody else will tell you: the Benign setting performs similarly to the Gold Monster 1000, so the 1000's behavior is effectively included as one of the 2000's three settings. Difficult, the default, stays stable at maximum sensitivity in almost any soil, with the best hot-rock rejection and the lowest response to charcoal. One more engineering detail from the manual: the battery voltage is regulated, so performance stays constant as the charge drains instead of fading at the end of the day.

Know before you buy

The control pod is IP55 rainproof, not submersible; only the coil takes water, to 3.3 ft (1 m). Audio is wired: the internal speaker or the included earbuds, no wireless. Unlike the Gold Monster 1000 there is no AA battery fallback, and the power plan is the two included Li-ion packs, which the 12 V clip cable can recharge off a truck battery in the field. The software is updatable over USB, so the machine can grow with Minelab's releases. Active and retired military: a 15% military discount exists on Minelab detectors. Call us at 256-284-2247 for details and to order with the discount; it cannot be combined with other promotions, including the free magazine subscription.
