Description

Most hunts happen on ordinary ground, and 8 in / 20 cm is the size ordinary ground rewards. This coil splits the difference the extremes cannot: deeper and wider-sweeping than the 5 in / 13 cm, lighter and better-mannered in trash than the 10 in / 25 cm and 11 in / 28 cm, and easy on the arm through a full day of swinging. If you keep one spare coil for a screw-in Teknetics or Fisher machine, this is the size that covers the most sites.

At a glance: genuine Teknetics 8 in / 20 cm search coil, part number 8COIL-7TEK, with the SCREW-IN (twist-lock) connector. One naming note up front: dealers describe this connector as screw-in on one page and screw-on on another, sometimes within the same store. It is a single twist-lock design, and we call it SCREW-IN on every surface of this page so nothing needs decoding.

Hosts that share this connector

This coil mounts on the screw-in Teknetics and Fisher machines we stock: Teknetics Alpha 2000, Teknetics Delta 4000, Teknetics Gamma 6000, Teknetics Omega 8500, Teknetics EuroTek Pro, Fisher F11, Fisher F22, Fisher F44. First Texas also prints the Fisher F5, which we do not stock. Two exclusions to know: the plug-in base EuroTek and Digitek cannot take any screw-in coil, and First Texas does not list this 8 in / 20 cm size for the G2, G2+ or Gold Bug machines (their small-coil option is the 5 in / 13 cm, part 5COIL-TEK).

Why this coil: the balance point

Coil choice is a set of trades, and the 8 in / 20 cm is where the trades cancel out. Against the 5 in / 13 cm it buys depth and sweep width; against the 10 in / 25 cm and 11 in / 28 cm it buys lightness and cleaner behavior around scattered junk. On an everyday coin-and-relic hunt across a yard, park or school ground, it asks the fewest compromises of any size in the line, which is why it makes the best first spare and the head that lives on the shaft between specialty jobs. Reserve the 5 in / 13 cm for iron-choked sites, and bring out the 10 in / 25 cm concentric or 11 in / 28 cm Double-D when open ground or maximum depth is the mission.

The table below lists the real figures under the part number First Texas itself uses, no house catalog code to cross-reference.

Quick answers

Does my machine take this coil? Check the connector on your current coil cable. A threaded twist-lock collar means screw-in, and this coil fits the hosts listed above: Teknetics Alpha 2000, Delta 4000, Gamma 6000, Omega 8500 and EuroTek Pro, plus Fisher F11, F22 and F44. A push-in plug means a base EuroTek or Digitek, which need the plug-in coil line. This 8 in / 20 cm size is not listed for the G2, G2+ or Gold Bug machines.

When would I pick a different size? Go smaller (5 in / 13 cm) when trash density or tight spaces demand separation; go larger (10 in / 25 cm concentric or 11 in / 28 cm Double-D) when coverage or depth on open ground is the goal.

Water use? Coil heads in this line are submersible while the control housing stays dry. Rated depths differ by machine; call 256-284-2247 and we will confirm yours.

Frequently asked questions

Which detectors does this Teknetics coil fit?

This is a SCREW-IN connector coil. It fits the Teknetics Alpha 2000, Teknetics Delta 4000, Teknetics Gamma 6000, Teknetics Omega 8500 and Teknetics EuroTek Pro, plus the Fisher F11, Fisher F22 and Fisher F44. It also fits the Fisher F5 (not stocked by History Seekers). It does NOT fit the base EuroTek or the Digitek, which use the plug-in connector, and First Texas does not list this 8 in / 20 cm size for the G2, G2+ or Gold Bug machines; their small-coil option is the 5 in / 13 cm (5COIL-TEK).

Screw-in or plug-in: how do I tell which coil I need?

Look at the coil connector on your current coil's cable. A twist-lock threaded collar is screw-in (Greek series, G2/G2+, EuroTek Pro, Fisher F-series). A push-in plug is plug-in (base EuroTek, Digitek). This coil is screw-in. Note that screw-in machines still differ by which coil sizes First Texas lists for them: this 8 in / 20 cm coil is not listed for the G2, G2+ or Gold Bug.

When should I use the 8 in coil?

The 8 inch / 20 cm is the balance point: deeper and wider-sweeping than the 5 in / 13 cm, lighter and better in scattered trash than the 10 in / 25 cm or 11 in / 28 cm. Drop to the 5 in / 13 cm for iron-choked sites; step up to the 10 in / 25 cm concentric or 11 in / 28 cm Double-D for open ground and depth.
