Description

Sixty-six feet down, ordinary waterproof headphones have a problem: your ear canal floods, and the signal you dove for turns to mush. The XP BH-01 skips the eardrum entirely. It is the first bone conduction headphone designed for metal detecting: it rests on your cheekbones and, in XP's words, "transmits sound to the inner ear directly through vibrations applied to the bones, without straining the eardrums. Your ears are therefore free." Free to stay dry. Free to wear proper dive earplugs. Free to hear a DEUS II target cleanly in churned, noisy water.

At a glance

The XP BH-01 is a wired bone conduction headphone made only for the XP DEUS II. IP68 certified and waterproof to 66 ft (20 m), it transmits target audio through the cheekbones so ears stay free for dive earplugs, and it keeps working in disturbed or noisy water. Made in France. 2 year XP warranty.

Why this is the DEUS II diving answer

Every diving detectorist knows the trade: seal the ears and lose awareness, or flood them and lose clarity. Bone conduction ends the trade. Because the BH-01 bypasses the ear canal, water in your ears stops mattering, and XP notes it performs in "disturbed or noisy water" where speaker audio struggles. It connects to the DEUS II by wire, which underwater is a feature, not a compromise: no radio link to lose at depth. It is designed for the DEUS II only - it is not a general-purpose headphone, and it does not fit other brands or older XP machines.

The angle nobody talks about: hearing-impaired detectorists

Bone conduction is not only a dive trick. XP points out that the BH-01 "allows the hearing impaired to feel the vibrations generated by the targets towards the cochlea," with the adjustable low bands around 100 to 300 Hz being the useful range for some hearing conditions. If conventional detector audio has become hard to use, this is a genuinely different path to the signal, on land or in the water.

Technical specs and what they do in the field

IP68 certified, waterproof to 66 ft (20 m) Matches the DEUS II remote's diving depth - a true underwater audio system
Bone conduction on the cheekbones Ears stay open and dry; audio quality does not depend on keeping water out of the ear canal
Wired connection to the DEUS II Nothing to pair and nothing to drop out at depth
Works in disturbed, noisy water Surf wash and murky rivers do not drown the target tone
Made in France by XP Purpose-built for detecting, not an adapted consumer product

Dive safety, straight from XP

Because your ears stay free, you can and should protect them properly: "When diving use only dedicated earplugs that allow pressure balancing, never use standard earplugs as they may damage the ear when diving." Standard foam plugs cannot equalize pressure; dive-rated vented plugs can.
