Why This Model
The Legend 2 runs Nokta's simultaneous multi-frequency (SMF) engine with single frequencies from 4 to 40 kHz, five purpose-tuned modes (Park, Field, Beach, Relic, Gold), and a 99-point target ID scale that gives iron, foil, and coins room to separate instead of stacking on a compressed line. It ships as a complete two-coil kit: the LD28 11 in (28 cm) for coverage and the LD21 8 x 5.5 in (21 x 14 cm) for surgical work in iron and trash, with Bluetooth aptX low-latency headphones in the box. At 2.6 lb (1.2 kg) it swings all day, and the whole machine is IP68 waterproof to 16 ft (5 m). That last spec matters: some listings elsewhere understate it at 10 ft; Nokta's official rating is 16 ft (5 m).
Two things on the Legend 2 that the spec lists at other dealers skip. First, the mineralization indicator reads iron mineralization on one side of the display and salt mineralization on the other, live, while you hunt. Nokta says it is the first detector to show the salt reading, and it is the beach hunter's tuning instrument: watch it climb as you cross from dry sand to the wet line and you know why the machine wants a lower sensitivity before it starts to chatter. One more thing about how this detector is sold. Several dealers list the Legend 2 as a "dual coil bundle" as if the second coil were their own add-on. It is not. Can the Legend 2 find gold?
Yes. It has a dedicated Gold mode and a 40 kHz single-frequency option for small gold in mineralized ground. For dedicated nugget country a specialist machine such as Nokta's Magnetar 9000 pulse induction detector goes further, but the Legend 2 is a genuinely multi-purpose detector.
Is the Nokta Legend 2 good for beginners?
It is friendly to learn but built to grow into: preset modes get a new detectorist hunting the first day, while 99-point target ID, adjustable tones, and per-mode settings reward experience. A motivated beginner can absolutely start here; most owners are hobbyists stepping up.
Can I use original Legend LG coils on the Legend 2?
Buy LD coils for the Legend 2. Nokta lists two separate coil families: the LD series (LD21, LD22, LD28, LD38) for the Legend 2 and the LG series (LG15, LG24, LG28, LG30, LG35) for the original Legend. We do not list either family as fitting the other machine, and the Legend 2 manual warns against running a coil it was not built for.
What do FerroCheck and the mineralization indicator do?
FerroCheck shows how much of a questionable signal is ferrous, next to the target ID, so a rusty bottle cap that sounds like a coin gets caught before you dig. The mineralization indicator is selectable in its place and reads iron mineralization on one side of the display and salt mineralization on the other while you hunt; the salt reading works in Multi and tells you when wet sand, not a target, is driving the noise.
