Multi-Process: two detectors in your ears

ST-generation headphones are the key that turns on Multi-Process, added in DEUS II software V4.0 and refined in V4.1: two simultaneous audio processing channels, a low-reactivity channel for deep targets and a high-reactivity channel for small finds near iron, blended with Audio Morphing and Chorus FX, with factory presets including DUAL AXIS, which pairs a classic motion channel with a non-motion channel so you can size a target before you dig. With a big coil swallowing wide ground each sweep, a second listening channel is cheap insurance against walking over the best target of the day. The discontinued non-ST WS6 and WSA II headphones cannot run it; every ST headset can.

Waterproof, stated honestly

Search coil and remote control are IP68 rated to 20 m (66 ft), with an optional antenna required when the coil is fully submerged. The WSA ST headphones are rainproof, not submersible; rain and spray are fine, dunking is not. Divers pair the detector with XP's wired BH-01 bone conduction headphones, rated to the same 20 m (66 ft). That distinction belongs on the product page, so here it is.

Who it is for

Field-relic hunters with permissions measured in acres, beach hunters who walk the tide instead of camping one cut, and warm-climate detectorists who want maximum ground coverage with minimum wearable weight. It is an intermediate to advanced machine that rewards learning its programs, and the stereo audio is the reason to buy a current ST package. Honest limits: in dense iron, downsize the coil, not the ambition; the 13x11 in coil averages targets that the 9 in (22.5 cm) coil separates, and at 570 g (20.1 oz) it is the heaviest of the three FMF sizes. The WSA ST headphones are rainproof, not waterproof, and have no screen; if you want a headset that can run the detector by itself, that is the WS6 ST. Serious gold prospectors should look at the DEUS II Gold package, whose HF2 elliptical search coil runs 9 to 120 kHz. And DEUS I accessories do not cross over: X35 and HF coils, WS4 and WS5 headphones and ORX parts are DEUS I products and never fit the DEUS II; the DEUS II takes FMF coils (9 in, 11 in, 13x11 in) and the HF2 elliptical only, and XP's ICON coil is ICON-only.

Why choose the 13x11 in (34x28 cm) coil over the 9 in or 11 in?

Choose the 13x11 in coil when your sites are open: plowed fields, pasture, battlefield acreage and wide beach flats. Its elliptical footprint covers the widest strip per sweep of the three FMF sizes and reaches deepest on larger conductive targets, so you search more ground per hour. What you give up is separation and weight: at 570 g (20.1 oz) it is the heaviest of the three, and in dense iron it averages targets that the 9 in (22.5 cm) coil pulls apart. The 11 in (28 cm) is the all-round choice. All three fit the same remote, so you can add a second coil later.

What is the difference between the WSA ST, WSA XL ST and WS6 ST headphones?

All three are XP's current ST stereo headphones and all three run Multi-Process. The WSA ST (this bundle) is the lightest at 72 g (2.5 oz), foldable and rainproof, with no screen. The WSA XL ST is the full-size over-ear version at 250 g (8.8 oz) with more isolation from wind and traffic and an IP68 rating to 1 m (3.3 ft). The WS6 ST adds a graphic screen and its own controls, so it can run the detector as a backup controller if the remote fails. Pick the WSA ST for weight and value, the WSA XL ST for comfort and isolation, the WS6 ST for redundancy.

Does Multi-Process work with the WSA ST in this bundle?

Yes. Multi-Process, including Multi-Reactivity, the DUAL AXIS preset and Audio Morphing, runs on any ST stereo headset: WSA ST, WSA XL ST or WS6 ST. It arrived with DEUS II software V4.0 and the current version is V4.1; the remote control and the headphones must run matching versions. The discontinued non-ST WS6 and WSA II headphones cannot run it, and XP warns that V4.0 should never be installed with a non-ST headset.

Is the XP DEUS II waterproof, and can I wear the WSA ST in the water?

The remote control and the search coil are IP68 rated and submersible to 20 m (66 ft); XP's optional antenna is required when the coil is submerged, so wading and surf work are routine. The WSA ST headphones are rainproof for wet weather and wading but are not for submersion. For diving, XP makes the wired BH-01 bone conduction headphones, which carry the full 20 m (66 ft) rating. We separate those numbers on purpose; they are different products with different limits.

Will my DEUS I coils or headphones work with this DEUS II?

No. X35 and HF coils, WS4 and WS5 headphones and ORX parts are DEUS I products and do not pair with the DEUS II. The DEUS II uses FMF coils in 9 in (22.5 cm), 11 in (28 cm) and 13x11 in (34x28 cm), plus the HF2 elliptical coil, and the current ST headphones. XP's ICON coil is for the ICON and ICON X only, although it works the other way: the DEUS II's FMF coils and ST headphones do also fit the ICON and ICON X.

Can the XP DEUS II find gold?

Beach gold, rings and chains, this configuration hunts well; jewelry is everyday work for the DEUS II in any program. Natural nuggets are different: the DEUS II does ship with GOLD FIELD as factory program 8, reaching 40 kHz for mineralized gold ground, but a 13x11 in coil is shaped for coverage, not tiny gold. Serious prospectors should choose the DEUS II Gold package, whose HF2 elliptical coil reaches 9 to 120 kHz; the HF2 coil can also be added to this remote later.

Updates install over USB through XP's online updater, and the remote and the headphones must be on the same version or the headphones will not connect. V4.1 brought the Multi-Process refinements, MI-6 pinpointer audio options and improved wireless reliability across the whole XP ecosystem.
