The WSA ST is the lightest at 72 g (2.5 oz), a foldable backphone with no screen, rainproof. Multi-Process: two detectors in your ears

Since software V4.0 (current version V4.1), ST-generation headphones like these unlock Multi-Process: two simultaneous audio channels, one slow and deep, one fast and sharp near iron, in a single sweep, with Audio Morphing, Chorus FX and factory presets including DUAL AXIS. On a big coil it earns its keep by keeping deep, soft signals audible while the fast channel guards against the trash you inevitably cross. Almost no dealer explains this; it is the best reason to buy current.

Waterproof, stated honestly

Coil and remote control are IP68 rated to 20 m (66 ft), with the supplied antenna required when the coil is fully submerged. The WSA XL ST headphones are rated to 1 m (3.3 ft): wading spray and rain, yes; diving, no. Divers run the wired BH-01 bone conduction headphones, rated with the detector to 20 m (66 ft). Better you know that here than at the water line.

Who it is for

Best for field-relic hunters walking plowed acreage, beach and surf hunters working tide lines, and cellar-hole prospectors whose targets are deep, scattered and large. It is an intermediate to advanced machine that rewards learning its programs, and the stereo audio is the reason to buy a current ST package rather than closeout non-ST gear. Honest limits: if your typical site is a trashy quarter acre, choose smaller glass, the 9 in (22.5 cm) or 11 in (28 cm) rungs of the ladder above. The WSA XL ST is the heaviest of the three ST headsets and has no screen; if you want a headset that can run the detector by itself, that is the WS6 ST. Diving requires the antenna and XP's BH-01 bone conduction headphones. Serious gold prospectors belong on the DEUS II Gold package, whose HF2 elliptical search coil runs 9 to 120 kHz. And DEUS I accessories do not cross over: X35 and HF coils, WS4 and WS5 headphones and ORX parts are DEUS I products and never fit the DEUS II; the DEUS II takes FMF coils (9 in, 11 in, 13x11 in) and the HF2 elliptical only, and XP's ICON coil is ICON-only.

When is the 13x11 in (34x28 cm) coil the wrong choice?

In dense iron and tight sites. A big elliptical coil sees several targets at once, so on trashy homesites it averages where a small coil separates. If that describes your ground, choose the 9 in (22.5 cm) configuration; the 11 in (28 cm) is the balanced middle. Take the 13x11 in (34x28 cm) coil when your sites are open fields, pasture and beach, where its wider sweep and deeper reach on large targets pay off every pass. All three coil sizes fit the same remote, so you can add a second coil later, and we offer each size with each of XP's three ST headphones.

What is the difference between the WSA XL ST, WSA ST and WS6 ST headphones?

All three are XP's current ST stereo headphones and all three run Multi-Process. The WSA XL ST (this bundle) is the full-size over-ear model at 250 g (8.8 oz), with the most isolation from wind and surf and an IP68 rating to 1 m (3.3 ft). Does Multi-Process work with the WSA XL ST headphones?

Yes. The WSA XL ST belongs to XP's ST generation, the only headphones that run Multi-Process: Multi-Reactivity two-channel processing, the DUAL AXIS preset, Audio Morphing and Chorus FX. It arrived with DEUS II software V4.0 and the current version is V4.1. The remote control and the headphones must run the same version. The discontinued non-ST WS6 and WSA II headphones cannot run it, and XP warns that V4.0 should never be installed with a non-ST headset.

Can I hunt the surf and dive with this bundle?

Surf, yes; dive, only the detector. The coil and the remote control are IP68 rated to 20 m (66 ft), and XP's antenna, supplied with the package, is required when the coil is submerged. The WSA XL ST headphones are rated to 1 m (3.3 ft), built for rain, spray and a dropped headset rather than submersion. Divers use XP's wired BH-01 bone conduction headphones, rated to the same 20 m (66 ft).

Will my DEUS I coils or headphones work with this DEUS II?

No. X35 and HF coils, WS4 and WS5 headphones and ORX parts are DEUS I products and do not pair with the DEUS II. The DEUS II uses FMF coils in 9 in (22.5 cm), 11 in (28 cm) and 13x11 in (34x28 cm), plus the HF2 elliptical coil, and the current ST headphones. XP's ICON coil is for the ICON and ICON X only, although it works the other way: the DEUS II's FMF coils and ST headphones, including the WSA XL ST, do also fit the ICON and ICON X.

Can the XP DEUS II find gold?

Jewelry gold, yes, and with a big coil this configuration is a strong beach-gold hunter. For natural gold, the DEUS II ships with GOLD FIELD as factory program 8, reaching 40 kHz on FMF coils for mineralized gold ground, though a 13x11 in (34x28 cm) coil is the wrong shape for tiny nuggets. Prospectors should look at the DEUS II Gold package, whose HF2 elliptical search coil runs 9 to 120 kHz; that is XP's dedicated gold configuration, and the HF2 coil can be added to this remote later.

What software version does the DEUS II run, and how do I update it?

The current DEUS II software is V4.1 (XP's update page, checked October 2026). Updates install over USB through XP's online updater, and the remote and the headphones must be on the same version or the headphones will not connect. V4.1 brought the Multi-Process refinements, MI-6 pinpointer audio options and improved wireless reliability.
