Description
Most "no headphones" detector packages are a compromise. This one is a decision. The XP ICON X in its base configuration is the full ICON X: the same ICON X remote control, the same ICON 28 coil at 11 in (28 cm), the same S-Telescopic Lite Carbon stem, and the same simultaneous Fast Multi Frequency (FMF) engine as the headphone package. What it leaves out is the one part of a detector that is personal. If you already own XP wireless audio, prefer the built-in speaker, or want over-ear cups or bone conduction instead of the standard WSA ST, this is the configuration that lets you choose.
Why This Configuration
XP sells the ICON X two ways: with WSA ST wireless headphones, or as this remote-and-coil package. The detector is identical. Buy the headphone package when you want one box that is ready to swing; buy this one when the headphones in that box are not the headphones you would pick. Three buyers land here. A detectorist who already runs an XP WSA ST, WSA XL ST or WS6 ST with a DEUS II and wants a second machine that pairs with the audio already in the truck. A speaker hunter who keeps both ears on the field and never wears cups. And the water hunter who plans to run the BH-02 bone-conduction headset below the surface, where the wireless headphones cannot go anyway.
Within the ICON family, the question is ICON or ICON X. The ICON X adds a 28 kHz single frequency on top of the 4 and 14 kHz the ICON offers, carries all six factory programs with six user slots instead of three and three, runs seven reactivity levels (0 to 6) instead of five, resolves the ferrous zone of the target ID in 0.5-point steps instead of 1-point steps, offers six audio types including the enhanced response curve, and rides a carbon middle stem that trims the fully equipped weight to about 1.6 lb (710 g). Both share the FMF engine, the 25 sensitivity levels, the 28-segment notch, the ground modes and the 16 ft (5 m) rating. If you hunt one kind of site with a preset and never touch the menus, the ICON saves money. If you work trashy ground, fine jewelry or wet salt sand and want the extra reactivity, resolution and the 28 kHz option, the ICON X is the one to own.
Other dealers sell this package as a gold machine on the strength of that 28 kHz frequency, and as waterproof to 16 ft (5 m) with no fine print. We would rather you know what XP actually prints. The ICON X has no gold prospecting program; 28 kHz helps on small jewelry and thin low-conductive targets, and that is the honest claim. And 16 ft (5 m) is reachable only with the BH-02 bone-conduction headset and the underwater waveguide fitted; with the standard remote cap alone, the limit is 5 ft (1.5 m) for 30 minutes. Both facts are in the spec table below, because a buyer who knows them chooses the right accessories the first time.

Who It's For
Coin, jewelry and relic hunters on parks, plowed fields, old homesites and beaches who want a light, fully wireless multi-frequency detector with real adjustability and who will pair their own XP audio. It suits a beginner who wants to grow into the menus and an experienced DEUS II owner who wants a lighter second machine on the same audio ecosystem.
Honest limits: there is no gold prospecting program, so nugget hunters should look at the XP DEUS II Gold with the HF2 coil instead. The wireless headphones XP makes for the ICON X (WSA ST, WSA XL ST) are not dive headphones; underwater audio is the wired BH-02 bone-conduction headset only, and that headset plus the waveguide is what unlocks the 16 ft (5 m) rating. Only SQUARE audio runs with the BH-02. The coil battery has no user-replacement procedure in the manual; remote and headphone batteries do. And this package has no headphones in the box, by design.

What is in the box, and what is not?
The ICON X remote control, the ICON 28 FMF coil at 11 in (28 cm) with its cover and lower stem, the blue S-Telescopic Lite stem with carbon middle section, the three-output charging cable and XP's documentation. Headphones are not included. The remote has a built-in speaker, so the detector works out of the box without them.
Which XP headphones pair with the ICON X?
XP's current ST wireless stereo headphones pair directly with the ICON X remote: the WSA ST, the over-ear WSA XL ST and the WS6 ST. For submerged hunting, the wired XP BH-02 bone-conduction headset is the only option; call us about it. The ICON X also pairs with the XP MI-6 pinpointer, routing the pinpointer audio through the remote with the coil muted. XP WS4, WS5 and other original DEUS and ORX headphones are a different generation and do not pair.
Is the XP ICON X waterproof?
Yes, IP68. With the standard cap on the remote, XP rates it to 5 ft (1.5 m) for 30 minutes, which covers wading and surf. To use the full 16 ft (5 m) rating you need the BH-02 bone-conduction headset, whose waterproof connector replaces the cap, plus the underwater waveguide that keeps the coil and remote talking below the surface. The keypad locks with a 12-second hold so buttons do not trigger under water.
Can the XP ICON X find gold?
Gold jewelry, yes: FMF reaches 40 kHz and the ICON X adds a 28 kHz single frequency, so thin chains and small rings are within reach. Nuggets are another matter. The six factory programs (Field, Trashy Field, Forest, Park, Wet Beach, Beach & Surf) include no gold prospecting program. For nugget hunting XP's machine is the DEUS II Gold with the HF2 coil and its GOLD FIELD program.
Do XP DEUS II coils fit the ICON X?
The DEUS II FMF coils do: the 9 in (22.5 cm) FMF, the 11 in (28 cm) FMF, the 13x11 in (34x28 cm) FMF and the HF2 elliptical. The remote stores several paired coils and switches between them with one click. XP X35 and HF coils are original DEUS and ORX coils and never fit the ICON, ICON X or DEUS II.
How long does the battery last, and can the ICON X be updated?
About 11 hours for the remote and the coil per charge, and about 3 hours to recharge; the included three-output cable charges remote, coil and headphones at the same time from any certified 5 V / 1 A USB supply. Software updates load over USB-C through XP's online updater at updater.xpmetaldetectors.com, the same place you register the detector for the warranty. XP has not published a version log for the ICON (checked October 2026).
